A New Season at Wesley Woods
In February 2026 Grace Outside, the camping ministry of the Michigan Conference of the UMC, announced that their focus and direction for Wesley Woods Camp was shifting to provide more time and space for Family Camp and Retreat Centers, while hosting the remaining High School, Middle School, and Elementary school camps, through committed UMC volunteer teams.
What does this mean for families looking for a Christ‑centered summer camp at Wesley Woods?
Very little will feel different. Only a few changes will be noticeable, and the heart of camp remains the same.
What’s Changing:
-
Our committed volunteers have secured licensing through the State of Michigan and found church sponsors to support licensing and insurance needs to meet the necessary requirements previously provided by the camp.
-
Camp this year will take place from Sunday afternoon through Friday evening. This decision was actually made last year, as it will support the camp staff in taking a much needed day of rest.
-
Elementary and middle school camps will be combine this year. Given the ample space camp provides and the additional administrative requirements, combining the two camps became a clear path forward for 2026.
-
Some camps previously offered will not be taking place (Arts Camp, Sports Camp, Elementary 2).
-
Camper cost will be reduced for 2026 ($400 this year, down from $475). See registration for more details.
-
God is still moving, and we are excited to see the next big thing he does at Welsey Woods summer camp.
What’s Staying the Same
-
Your trained, passionate deans and volunteers (some with decades experience) are showing up and preparing an unforgettable week of camp.
-
Campers will dive into God’s Word, grow in their understanding of God’s love, and learn how to live out Jesus’ command to love our neighbors.
-
Favorite activities like pool time, waterfront fun, craft shack, archery, and more will continue!
-
Camp remains a safe, welcoming space where campers and staff disconnect from devices and reconnect with God’s creation and one another.
-
Grace Outside will continue to offer a Grand/Teddy Bear Camp.
A New Opportunity
This transition has opened the door to deeper involvement. In the past, many planning, communication, and external connection responsibilities were handled by the camp itself. Now, as volunteer teams step into a greater role, we are inviting reinforcements.
We are reaching out to our congregations, family, and friends, sharing the powerful ways God works through camp, and inviting you to do the same. Summer church camp has been declining for the past two decades—but together, we can be part of its renewal. We invite you to share your stories, your passion, and your love for the Wesley Woods camp experience.
Thank you for your prayers and support during this season of transition. We are excited to share another summer filled with faith, fun, and growth with your family.

Our Team.
Each and every one of us has had our lives profoundly changed at camp. There are over 100 years of combined camping experience and camp continues to be a place where God is glorified and our leaders can live out their callings.
